Privacy notice

What we collect, why we use it and the choices you have. Last updated 11 August 2026.

Who is responsible for your information?

The Northern Edit is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. We are an independent business based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. Privacy enquiries can be sent to thenorthernedits@gmail.com or by post to The Northern Edit, Unit 171074, PO Box 7169, Poole, BH15 9EL.

Information we collect

  • Contact details such as your name, email address, telephone number and delivery address.
  • Order, enquiry, quotation, delivery and customer-service information.
  • Artwork, logos, photographs, personalisation details and files you choose to provide.
  • Payment status and transaction references. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and are not stored by us.
  • Basic technical and security information created when you use the website.

Why we use it

We use personal information only when we have a valid reason, including:

  • Contract: to provide quotes, process orders, personalise goods, take payment and arrange delivery.
  • Legal obligation: to keep tax, accounting and transaction records and respond to legal requests.
  • Legitimate interests: to answer enquiries, prevent fraud, improve our service and resolve complaints.
  • Consent: where you have actively chosen to receive optional marketing. You may withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We share only what is necessary with service providers that help us operate, including Stripe for payments, website and form providers, email providers, and delivery companies such as InPost or Royal Mail. We may also share information with professional advisers or authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep information only for as long as needed for the reason it was collected. Unsuccessful enquiries and quotation files are normally reviewed and deleted after 24 months. Order and financial records are retained for the period required by tax and accounting law, generally up to six years. Artwork may be kept with an order record to support repeat orders or disputes; you can ask us to remove it when it is no longer required.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your information, object to its use, or receive a portable copy. Email us to make a request. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and updates

Essential technologies may be used to operate and secure the website and checkout. If we add analytics, advertising or other non-essential cookies, we will provide appropriate information and choices before they are used. We may update this notice when our services or providers change.
